Education (Early Childhood Centres) Regulations 1998
Every licensed centre must comply with these regulations. They set the minimum standards required for an early childhood service to operate. No centre can offer less. They cover important areas such as health and safety provisions and how the environment is set up including numbers of staff and children, the space required inside and out, toilets, fencing and sleeping and eating arrangements. You can ask to see a copy of the regulations and staff will be able to explain how they are implemented in the centre you use.
The intent of these important documents is to describe the structures and processes that need to be in place to support this centre in their work to provide a quality early childhood programme which benefits the child and their family and the wider community. They both allow for many opportunities for you to be involved. All you do is ask the staff or management of the centre if you wish to know more.
